Match ends, Bristol City 1, Huddersfield Town 1.
Huddersfield Town dropped into the Championship relegation places after conceding a penalty in the 10th minute of stoppage time to draw 1-1 at Bristol City.
The Terriers had the better of the first period but failed to test Max O'Leary in the Bristol City goal as the Robins failed to click after their 5-0 win over Blackburn on Wednesday night.
City improved after the break and Josh Koroma's late goal seemed to have been enough to get all three points for the Yorkshire side.
But Oliver Turton was adjudged to have handled Cameron Pring's cross in the area deep in stoppage time and Nahki Wells converted from the spot.
While the draw saw Huddersfield earn a fifth point in a three-game unbeaten run, a win for Birmingham City over Coventry City saw Town drop into the relegation zone - they are a point from safety with three games to play.
The draw sees Bristol City stay in 12th place in the Championship table.
Huddersfield impressed in the opening half hour as David Kasumu, Brodie Spencer Alex Matos and Josh Koroma all had efforts off target in a goalless first period.
City's first decent effort did not come until 10 minutes into the second half when Jason Knight's near-post effort was saved by Lee Nicholls while Matty James had a long-range strike saved soon after.
Jack Rudoni should have put Huddersfield ahead midway through the second half when he was found in the middle of the penalty area by Matos, but his low effort went wide of the far post.
Wells went close with a 73rd-minute effort having just come off the bench before O'Leary was equal to a Sorba Thomas effort.
Rudoni played a key part in Town's goal as he broke down the right and saw his deflected shot fall perfectly for Koroma who scored for the second successive game from close range.
But just as Town were preparing to celebrate staying out of the drop zone they were hit by a sucker punch as Wells converted from the spot.
Huddersfield Town defender Tom Lees told BBC Radio Leeds:
"There's not much you can say.
"You can't even say we were hanging on and all the usual stuff that we're throwing points away from a winning position.
"We felt comfortable, it was a decision out of nothing which I don't think needed making that has cost us.
"I realise that people will go down and there's probably a bit of time to add, but it getting given on 98 minutes - we look back on it and it's harsh."
Bristol City head coach Liam Manning told BBC Radio Bristol:
"I'm really pleased to get a point, but probably frustrated with the performance.
"A lot of it was on us. Give credit to Huddersfield for their organisation, their structure, how they set up - they frustrated us quite well.
"But at the same point we were very different to what we were the other night in terms of the purpose, the energy, the aggression we showed with and without the ball.
"It was just a little bit sloppy at times, but take my hat off to the lads, we've been on the end of games where it's has been a draw and we've lost it last minute, so looking ahead it's a new experience for us to make sure that we keep fighting to the end because when there's one goal in it you can turn it. Did it hit an arm? perhaps Was the arm in an unnatural position? no. Was the arm next to the body? no This wasn't because of the gender of the ref but a former player at a decent level wouldn't have given it
9 wins in 43, however...
Appalling does not come close
But for City to thump Blackburn then play like this is crazy. No shots in the first half. It’s daft.
As to the penalty I have no opinion but scoring last kick of the game it’s about time. City were on the right side of that business for once against the amount of times we conceded late on.
