Hamilton and Russell endured a disappointing qualifying on Friday for the Miami sprint race, failing to make it out of SQ2.

Seven-time world champion Hamilton started Saturday's sprint from 12th on the grid, one place below his younger British compatriot.

However, the pair were given an instant chance to shake off Mercedes' struggles by taking celebrities for a hot lap of Miami.

Social media star Jenner uploaded a story on Instagram from the Miami Grand Prix, with Hamilton behind the wheel.

Once they had finished the pair high-fived, before Jenner revealed: "He was like, "do you want to go again", no, no, no, I'm good!"

Russell teamed up with Sheeran for the high-speed stint, where the musician admitted he'd written off his £200,000 Aston Martin DB9.

Sheeran said: "I wrote off a car once so I'm quite sensible with speed - A DB9, so yeah, I got a Volvo."

Sheeran has had an eventful weekend in Miami having seen his beloved Ipswich Town win promotion on Saturday.

The Tractor Boys beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 on the final day of the Championship season to send them back to the Premier League.

As well as being a huge fan of the club, Sheeran has sponsored the club's shirt since 2021 and was even wearing one for the Grand Prix.

He was up at 7am in Florida to watch the team on TV and later FaceTimed the Ipswich players to congratulate them on their achievements.

Jenner meanwhile was in attendance in Miami on ambassadorial duties, posing for pictures with Susie Wolff and Tommy Hilfiger.

Mercedes drivers Hamilton and Russell will be hoping to take the pace from their hot laps into Sunday's Grand Prix.

The teammate only managed P8 and P7 in qualifying respectively following a disappointing P16 and P12 finish in the sprint.

“Of course we all have higher standards than that and hope and expect more but we have to accept this is where we are as a team right now,” said Russell.

“I think we know where the problems are in the car and we need to make some big changes to rectify that. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen overnight.

“We always have a better Sunday than we do Saturday, so even with the car we’ve got, I think we’re going to take a step forward. But I think it’s becoming increasingly clear what our problems are and what we need to do to make it go faster.”
