Blues Target Millers Midfielder Crooks
Tuesday, 8th Jun 2021 13:24

Town are targeting Rotherham United midfielder Matt Crooks.

According to the EADT, the Blues are set to make a bid for the 27-year-old, who is moving into the final year of his contract with the Millers, and TWTD understands there is indeed Town interest in the Leeds-born schemer.

Crooks, who plays primarily as a defensive midfielder, was a schoolboy with Manchester United’s academy before moving on to Huddersfield with whom he made one senior appearance.

While with the Terriers he spent time on loan at FC Halifax, Radcliffe Borough and Accrington before joining Stanley on a permanent basis in 2016.

In July 2016 he joined Rangers in Scotland but six months later he departed for a loan spell at Scunthorpe having been unable to make an impression at Ibrox.

A switch to Northampton followed in the summer of 2017 before he moved on to Rotherham in January 2019 and was a member of the side which won promotion to the Championship the next season, scoring both goals - out of a campaign total of 11 - in the Millers’ 2-0 victory over the Blues at Portman Road.

In 2020/21, Crooks scored seven times as the South Yorkshiremen dropped back into League One.

In March it was reported that Rotherham had held preliminary talks with Crooks regarding a new deal after interest from Nottingham Forest last summer.

The Blues have already added West Burns and Lee Evans to their midfield ranks but are certain to make further signings in that area of the squad with most of the current players having been told they can move on this summer.

Would be outstanding at league one level and a good physical presence which we are desperately lacking. Held his own in the championship last season. A definite yes for me. Maybe not setting the bar higher enough for some people on here, but at six foot Four inches he's well equipped to deal with that.

Another good solid player at this level ... Championship player of the month for January and has 18 Goals in the last 2 seasons, tall player so a danger at set pieces and a presence in the middle of the park

Whats not to like ?

if we can get a good price then yess go for him,

But I still think we should keep Downes (First team Starter) Bishop/Dozzell (Back up) or sell for a good price.

18 goals from midfield seems very good. lets see if it happens

felt for far to long now we have been far to light in the centre of the park, sounds like he'd be a really good addition to me

Exactly the type of player we need. Sounds like Downes will need to up his game to even get in the side which is no bad thing. Things have been far too complacent for far too long. It also seems to have gone all quiet on Edwards so maybe that ship has sailed.

I am sure there is a lot more to come but surely the left hand side needs some attention and I can't recall a single link to that type of player at this stage which is unusual.

We seem to be getting linked with everybody under the sun at the moment! Will take it all with a pinch of salt until closer to pre-season as, in order to be able to sign players, we are going to need to offload an awful lot of players first - otherwise we will be left with too many players to fit into the named squad before the season starts.
Still remember getting linked to Gabriel Batistuta all those years ago and i dont think that turned out well :)

Pep stated,"what you spend is where you end up".So,MM couldn't get to the promised land on two buttons and a sixpence but Paul Cook can?I'm sorry but if the new owners are serious, get the cheque book out and invest in the team, the manager, the supporters.

Geminimustang. What are you on about? Living in a dream world it seems. This is exactly the kind of player we need to be signing right now. A good player, who is likely to be somewhere in the wage bracket we are allowed to pay under the ffp. Or do you expect us to be signing pl players? Get real.

Geminimustang - are you seriously one of those who thinks £ spent = quality? We are not obscenely awash with money (thankfully).Too much FM for you I think.

(I bet that lot up the road wish they had paid £1m for a striker instead of getting Pukki for nothing - just as an example)

Very promising that we are signing and being linked with players in their prime.

No journey men, no sick notes and no 'could do with a fresh start' signings.

Gemini mustang, i live in Spain and support Barça over here, watch every game and trust me....big money spent doesn't always bring success. Barça dpunked the best part of 400 million euros on Coutinho, Griezmann and Dembele and have only won one domestic cup in the last two seasons, an absolute waste of money!! So to be honest, your comment doesn't really add up!!

Linkboy13….. do we have your assurance he would be outstanding at this level or are you just claiming such without any real idea? Patchwork quilt of a career with a couple of ok seasons. Can I ask what detailed knowledge you have of him? You have scouted him regularly or watched a lot of Rotherham games? He seems to me like a journeyman given his career.

Was fantastic against us the last time I saw us at the NYS. Great touch, passing range, ability to ghost forward effortlessly, won all the aerial duels in midfield.I've never understood why he hasn't played at a higher level. An absolute must have !

I'm not the one who thinks we should be lashing out fees on players we'd be linked with if they were out of contract and suddenly declaring them great players. If he doesn't sign the ones who are bigging hin up now will be playing him down or if he turns out to be another Nolan slagging him off as average.Way too many on here buzzing on BS. Wait and see before claiming they are great signings. I bet most of you had never listed any of the signings or linked players as ones you'd want…. Until they were signed or linked.

Monkey_Blue added 15:52 - Jun 8
ChepstowBlue, he has played at a higher level isn't there now and is a realistic signing for us. There are signings I could get excited about but this one has to show me he's better than his record.

Like all our squad. Have to have good ethics to deal with expectations and be solid when every league 1 team will be up for it

I say let PC go for the players he wants I'm prepared to give them a chance you never know. But come the end of the season we will know but if we finish out of the top six I will have my say hopefully in the North Stand or on here but I will have my say no matter how many mark me down. I know this will probably be a 2 season rebuild but we should be good enough for a top 6 finish next season.

Great to see some serious height in the squad especially from midfield where so often we have been bullied off the ball without losing quality on the ball. Hope we get him as we have for far too long now been lightweight. You don't get out of this league with boys alone. Muscle and skill will be needed on a budget so Matt seems a good target to me.

A good fit. Re all the players we are being linked with, it wasn't that long ago that we were seriously linked with Vardy. There are players out there under the radar that a good scouting system would unearth.

Really like this one, he tore us apart at PR two seasons ago and is just the type of midfielder we need for this level. Please get this one over the line as for me would be the best signing yet!
